In order to be publicly recognized as a STEM region with a quality label and to become visible on this national STEM regions portal, specific quality criteria must be met. These criteria have been defined by a broadly composed STEM Regions Steering Committee. These criteria encompass geographical coverage, a network of diverse STEM stakeholders, the organization of the STEM region, the STEM region's mission, existing STEM activities, STEM development perspectives and future projects, STEM gender focus, as well as visibility and communication.

A panel evaluates the written submissions based on these criteria, which will be compiled by applicant consortia as part of the annual nationwide 'STEM Regions Austria' calls starting from 2023. The first nationwide call for STEM regions will commence on March 15, 2023, at 12:00 PM.

Submissions are made through the aws Funding Manager.
