Advancing through STEM Regions

To sustainably strengthen Austria's science and business location through young professionals in the fields of Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM), the federal government is committed to the development of STEM regions in the country.

Transforming into STEM Workforce Hubs through STEM Regions

STEM regions are regional networks that make Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) accessible from various perspectives, create synergies, and provide a comprehensive STEM offering throughout the education continuum.

Wirkungen einer MINT-Region

FOR THE GIRLS

who are empowered and guided to make brave unconventional career decisions - in STEM and beyond.

FOR THE EDUCATIONAL AND RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS,

who will be able to communicate their STEM focuses more effectively in the future, thereby reducing science and technology aversion in society.

FOR THE COMMUNITIES,

that, as part of a STEM region, can sharpen their location branding towards technology and innovation, which will particularly offer a unique opportunity for enhancing rural areas.

FOR THE YOUTH,

who will experience STEM in entirely new contexts. In an inspiring environment, they enhance their digital and technical competencies and are supported in utilizing the professional and personal opportunities in STEM.

FOR THE FEDERAL STATES AND THEIR STEM INITIATIVES,

which will function as sources of ideas and focal points for new STEM regions. They will have additional tools to boost STEM promotion at the regional level. Moreover, the nationwide orientation of STEM regions will stimulate the transfer of knowledge and good ideas across state boundaries

FOR INITIATORS OF EXCITING STEM PROJECTS,

to whom STEM regions offer a larger platform and cross-regional visibility

FOR BUSINESSES,

that, through their involvement in STEM regions, contribute to alleviating the shortage of skilled workers and thus find talents more easily: within the region where people are inspired about STEM, but also internationally through the new region branding as part of a STEM workforce hub, attracting international talents. Ultimately, all of this enhances the competitiveness of STEM regions.
